Canelo Stops Plant for Undisputed Position

At the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on Saturday Night, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez made history in becoming the first ever undisputed Super Middleweight World champion by defeating Caleb Plant by 11th round stoppage.

Canelo, whose astounding ascent in boxing has seen him claim world titles in 4 weight classes, defeated a very game, competent world champion in Caleb Plant. Plants attempts to use his significant height and reach advantage to box Alvarez from the backfoot, ultimately allowed the stocky Mexican pound for pound king to corner Plant regularly and let off combinations.

As the fight wore on, Plant had success with some flurries when standing toe to toe with Canelo, which proved to be his downfall, as Canelos impressive head/body combos began to take their toll on the Nashville man. In the 11th round, Canelo landed an impressive left hook followed by a handful of shots dropping Plant, once PlantCaleb regained his feet he was set upon again and dropped, with the fight being called off as he attempted to regain his senses.

Canelos career is now at an impasse, having dominated divisions between Welter and SuperMiddle (with some success at Light Heavy), the only way is up, with fans and pundits expecting Canelo to move up again and attempt to unify the Light Heavyweight division, namely, in a contest against vicious puncher Artur Beterbiev, a mouth watering contest that will see the pound for pound king come face to face with a man whose knocked out everyone he has fought.
