Manchester May Day 2021

On Bank Holiday Monday hundreds of Trade Unionists, Communists, Socialists and antifascists gathered in Piccadilly Gardens to march and to celebrate International Workers Day.

The march, organised by Manchester Trades Council, headed from Piccadilly Gardens to the Queens Road bus depot to stand in solidarity with the recent strike action by bus drivers over unpaid hours and changes to sick pay, as well as ‘fire and re-hire’ tactics being used my management.

Greater Manchester Police were notably absent throughout the day. The march was covid-compliant, with face masks compulsory and social distancing exercised where possible, but that’s not stopped GMP in the past. The working class of Manchester proved today that they don’t need GMP’s thugs to have a safe protest.

0161 stands in solidarity with May Day protestors all over the world, and in particular with the striking bus workers who have served the public so well during the pandemic.
