The man of the hour, Slowthai, is just in time to emerge the next British MC to break into the overground. After the most recent wave of grime success, reignited by Skepta, Wiley and Stormzy, it seems we have headed back into a lul, but the 24 year old Northampton native has other plans.
With a string of bouncey, gritty singles and EPs, starting with “Jiggle” in 2016, Slowthai or Tyron as he’s known to his mum, has gathered a decent hardcore following. Inspired by his catchy flow, visceral word play and stories of Northampton’s underbelly. His latest singles, “Peace of Mind” and “Gorgeous” taken from his upcoming album “Nothing Great About Britain” have shown a deep, politically minded, angry young man.
Ready to rage against the system, billboards have appeared across London with facts featuring his album title, including “Boris Johnson is described by fans as humorous, intelligent, charismatic and clever” and “Recorded offences of hate crime have gone up 123% in the last 5 years”. It’s clear that with his upcoming debut album, Slowthai wants to make a statement.
